There are a variety of consumables in Project Zomboid, whether they be books, magazines, foods, drinks, pills or cigarettes.

Foods[]

Foods in Project Zomboid primarily restore hunger when consumed, with some foods conveying bonuses or penalties to happiness and boredom. There are 4 groups of food:

  • Cookable
  • Canned
  • Perishable
  • Unperishable

Generally, canned and unperishable foods should be saved, because perishables and cookables will go bad after refridgeration goes out, and when power goes out, you won't be able to cook cookables.

Drinks[]

Since 0.2.0, players need to drink water in project zomboid. Water can be drank from sinks, toilets, the River, and rain catchers. They can be put in bottles, and purified if needed in an oven or campfire. In your inventory, they can automatically be drank. Other sources can be found throughout the world such as beer, pop, and milk. Many of the drinks are nonperishables, however, drinks like milk are perishable and will need stored in a fridge to keep them fresh. Keep in mind, the power will go out around a month in game. This means that you’ll need generators to power the fridge in order to keep its contents refrigerated.

Drinking from unclean sources can be risky. It’s more risky to drink from rain catchers than the river. Beer can also give you certain drunk moodles. Empty bottles can be reused to siphon gas or collect water.

Pills[]

Painkillers[]

Painkillers are a type of pill found in medicine cabinets in bathrooms all across the map. They temporarily reduce pain.

Beta Blockers[]

Beta Blockers are a type of pill found in medicine cabinets in bathrooms all across the map. They reduce panic.

Sleeping Tablets[]

Sleeping Tablets are a type of pill found in medicine cabinets in bathrooms all across the map. They increase tiredness.

Anti-Depressants[]

Anti-depressants are a type of pill found in medicine cabinets in bathrooms all across the map. They reduce depression.

Vitamins[]

Vitamins are a type of pill found in medicine cabinets in bathrooms all across the map. They reduce Fatigue.
